BBMP, which is the municipal corporation of Bangalore,, has planned an online system for A Khata applications in the next 15 days. The platform will allow people to apply for conversion from B Khata to A Khata. They can also submit a new Khata form if they do not have any Khata for their property.
A clear rule has been sent to people stating that they should not visit BBMP offices. People cannot give bribes to anyone in the office anymore. The system will be fully online now. This digital route will eliminate the malpractices that have been involved in the Khata issuance process in the city for many years.
A Khata is a document for property owners to get building approvals, loans, and full ownership. While A Khata properties are officially compliant, B Khata properties fall under irregular layouts. This limits the owner's access to civic services.
Once the online process starts, delays in issuing Khatas can be avoided. Many new layouts will get approvals soon. People struggling to get clear titles for resale of property and loan approvals will also benefit.
Until the online system goes live, officials have told owners not to visit BBMP offices. The State Cabinet approved the issue of B Khata properties by BBMP until September 2024. This move will upgrade them to Khata status and grant access to civic needs.
When issuing e-Khata, all parameters will be checked. If property owners fulfill the requirements, then B Khata will be upgraded to A Khata. After that, property owners will receive certificates granting legal status, enabling sales and bank loans.
