The ISKCON Temple in Bangalore is a famous spiritual and cultural centre. The temple is 59 min, 1 hr 25 min (28.5 km) via HAL Old Airport Rd from Prestige Evergreen, Whitefield. It is known for its grand architecture and its mission to spread spiritual learning and Vedic culture. It is also one of the largest ISKCON temples in the world.

Bangalore has two main ISKCON temples. The first one is the main ISKCON temple on Hare Krishna Hill in Rajajinagar, which is a big cultural complex with unique architecture. The second is a newer temple called ISKCON Vaikuntha Hill on Kanakapura Road.

The Rajajinagar temple was opened in 1997 and has shrines of Radha Krishna, Krishna Balarama, and Prahlada Narasimha. It also conducts many spiritual and cultural programs.

  • Inauguration: The temple was opened in 1997 by the President of India at that time, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. It was planned and built under the guidance of Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa.
  • Architectural Style: The design is a mix of traditional and modern styles, called “glass and gopuram.” It has detailed stone carvings with a neoclassical look.
  • Landmark Structures: The temple has a 17-meter-high gold-plated flag post (Dhwaja Stambha) and a gold-covered dome top (Kalash Shikhara) that is 8.5 meters tall.
  • Deities: The shrines are dedicated to many deities. The main ones are Sri Radha Krishnachandra, Sri Krishna Balarama, Sri Nitai Gauranga, Sri Srinivasa Govinda, Sri Prahlada Narasimha, and Srila Prabhupada.
  • Complex Facilities: The temple complex also has a Vedic museum, a lecture hall for spiritual talks, an amphitheatre for cultural programs, and a gift shop.

The temple is well-linked to major commuting stations, including a metro station, a bus stop, and an airport. Its distance to these stations is:

  • Metro Station: ISKCON Temple, Bangalore, the nearest metro is the Mahalakshmi metro station, which is on the Green Line. It is approximately a 4-5 minute walk from the station to the temple.
  • Bus Stop: The nearest bus stop is the Mahalakshmi Layout Entrance, or by using the Sandal Soap Factory Metro Station. From Majestic, you can take buses 80, 80A, 80B, 80E, 80F, 80G, or 252F to reach near the temple. From the bus stop, it is just a 10-minute walk to the temple.
  • Airport: It is about 35 to 40 Km from Kempegowda International Airport (BLR).
  • Roads: Some of the major low-traffic roads near the temple are Chord Road (West of Chord Road), Dr. Rajkumar Road, and NH-04.
  • Early Morning Programs: The day starts at 4:30 AM with Mangala Arati. After this, there are spiritual activities like Tulasi Puja and Japa meditation, where devotees chant the Hare Krishna mantra.
  • Darshan Timings: The temple is open for public darshan in the morning and evening. The timings are different on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Lectures and Classes: Every day, the temple conducts classes on sacred texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. These help devotees and visitors in spiritual learning.
  • Festivals: The temple is famous for celebrating Hindu festivals on a large scale. The most special one is Sri Krishna Janmashtami, which brings thousands of devotees from across the world for all-night rituals and festivities.

The temple is the main centre of the Akshaya Patra Foundation. This is a large social program that gives free mid-day meals to school children across India. It shows the temple’s strong commitment to social welfare and humanitarian service, along with its religious activities.
