What is the road work in Varthur?
Varthur Road is one of the fastest-developing areas of East Bangalore. The government of Karnataka especially values the importance of this area in terms of real estate and business. Mahanagar Palika or BBMP plans to widen the road between Kadubeesanahalli Outer Ring Road and Yamaluru Kodi.
Along this route, there are 25 properties that BBMP wants to acquire in order to widen the road. Currently, the Varthur Main Road has only 2 lanes. In a few months, it will be 25 meters wider, having 6 lanes. It will greatly help with more effective traffic organisation, making people’s lives faster and easier.
Varthur Road is an important road. It connects several key IT locations like Sarjapur, Whitefield, Marathahalli, Electronic City and so on. Varthur already has amazing road, railway and metro connectivity. The road expansion project will only make lives easier.
Pedestrian and Cycling Infrastructure: to create and safe environment for sustainable travel, BBMp is building more cycling lanes and footpaths.
Drainage and Stormwater Management: To prevent flooding during the monsoon season, new drainage lines and stormwater drains are being installed.
Better Road Signs and Street Lighting: With the widening of the project, BBMP is putting more focus on road safety. New and improved traffic signals are being installed. New zebra crossings, road signs are being added for enhanced visibility and safety.
Road Widening: The Varthur Road widening project is currently in progress. Karnataka Road Development Corp. is managing it. They have approved new satellite ring roads, connecting other key areas of the city via the outskirts.
During phase 1, widening and resurfacing work have been done on Varthur Main Road. They are currently in Phase 2, where they will work on the drainage systems across key intersections. The last stage will involve installing footpaths and cycling lanes. The project is expected to be completed by October 2025.
Although the main work is being done between 10 PM to 5 AM, it is possible for residents to face a 10-20 minute delay in their commute.
