The Purple Line of Metro Bangalore is one of the major metro stations that runs from Whitefield in the east to Challaghatta in the west. The Purple Line Metro path covers 43.5 km. It has 37 stations and it connects main stations like MG Road, Majestic, and KR Puram.

Purple Line metro fare

The metro purple line in Bangalore fare is fixed, and it is based on the distance travelled.

  • The minimum fare is Rs 10 and the maximum fare is Rs 50 for one way journeys.
  • Smart cards are rechargeable contactless cards that are available for Rs 50. A discount of 5% on the token fares is also there. Users can charge these cards for Rs 3000. It must be in multiples of Rs 50. People can recharge the smart card on the Namma Metro app or at the customer care counters.
  • If people choose smart cards, a 10% discount is added. Extra discounts are given for senior citizens, differently abled passengers, and students.

If you plan to use the metro often, you have the option to buy a Smart Card from an authorised outlet. To get this smart card, a security deposit is needed. Then, the card remains valid for 30 days or till the pre-loaded cash is over.

Once the payment is correct, your QR ticket will appear on the screen. It can be scanned at any metro station's entry and exit gates.

Metro Timings on Purple Line start from 5:00 AM in the morning and end at 11:00 PM at night. It will run at a frequency of 5 to 7 minutes.

Purple line route details

The purple line connects the east and west parts of the city, and it has 37 stations. It will take 80 minutes to cover the full distance. The purple metro line starts from Challaghatta in the west and ends at Whitefield in the east. There are 3 interchange stations – Kempegowda, MG Road, and Mysore Road.

Project construction details

The construction work began in April 2007 on the 42.30 km line under Phase 1. In 2011, the became operational. The final section opened on 17th June 2017. On 30th August 2021, the metro extension in the southwest was opened from Mysore Road to Kengeri.
