Bengaluru’s metro story took a decisive turn in 2025. On 11 August 2025, the long-awaited Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra finally opened to passengers. Stretching for 19.1 kilometres and serving 16 elevated stations, it links the city’s fast-growing technology hub at Electronic City with HSR Layout, BTM Layout and Bommasandra. The reaction from commuters was instant: the very next day, the network carried 10.48 lakh passengers, the highest single-day ridership in its history.
The Yellow Line began with only three trains running at 25-minute gaps. By September a fourth train had been added, cutting the wait to about 19 minutes. More rakes are on the way a fifth is due before the end of the year, bringing headways down to roughly 15 minutes, and by 2026 a full fleet will allow trains every five to six minutes. For anyone who has battled traffic on Hosur Road, this is already a life-changing improvement.
While the Yellow Line is up and running, work continues on the Blue Line, which will run 58.19 kilometres from Central Silk Board through KR Puram to Kempegowda International Airport. By June 2025 more than half the civil work had been finished, and BMRCL expects section-by-section openings from 2026, with the full line targeted for 2027. This corridor is designed to unclog the Outer Ring Road tech belt and finally give Bengaluru a reliable airport rail link.
The Pink Line, linking Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara over 21.25 kilometres, is also moving forward. System and traction tests were underway through 2025. Authorities plan to open the elevated section first in 2026, followed by the underground stretch later that year. Once complete, it will plug directly into the Yellow Line at Jayadeva, the Purple Line at MG Road and the Blue Line at Nagawara, creating a dense cross-city network.
These projects are not just about trains. They are already reshaping the city’s property market. Since the Yellow Line opened, demand has surged in Electronic City, Bommasandra, Hebbagodi, HSR Layout and BTM Layout, with buyers and tenants willing to pay more for homes within walking distance of a station. The same trend is expected along the Blue Line in Bellandur, Marathahalli, KR Puram and the Airport corridor, and around Nagawara, MG Road and Jayadeva Junction once the Pink Line launches. Industry trackers estimate that properties within one or two kilometres of a metro station typically command 5–15 per cent higher values than those further away.
The Namma Metro Bangalore 2025 latest update shows a city finally building the infrastructure it needs. The Yellow Line has already transformed daily travel for thousands in Electronic City and along Hosur Road. The Blue and Pink Lines are on the way, promising a truly connected network by 2027. With over 100 kilometres of metro expected to be operational by the end of 2025, Bengaluru is steadily creating one of India’s most extensive urban transit systems — changing not only how people move but also how and where the city grows.
