Vidhana Soudha

Vidhana Soudha (also spelt VidhānaSaudha ) is the seat of the Karnataka Legislature in Bengaluru, India. It was completed in 1956, housing the bicameral legislature of the Karnataka government. It is regarded as one of the most important examples of post-independence civic architecture. Visiting this place can help understand Karnataka’s political identity, cultural heritage and architectural ambition.

Vidhana Soudha is located at Ambedkar Veedhi, Sampangi Rama Nagara, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560001, India. It is exactly 21.1 kilometres away from Varthur. There are several means of transportation to reach this place, such as cabs, buses, and the metro. It takes around an hour to reach Vidhana Soudha via HAL Old Airport Road. The nearest metro station is Vidhana Soudha Metro Station on the Purple Line of Namma Metro.

What is Vidhana Soudha Famous For?

Vidhana Soudha is not only the largest legislative building of India, but also a stunning landmark. The place is made with Neo-Dravidian style architecture. It's often referred to as the “Taj Mahal of South India”. Standing at 150ft tall, this place is 200 ft wide across 550,505 sq ft of land. The central dome itself is 60ft in diameter.

There are 4+1 floors (including the basement) in this building. It has massive granite structures (the central dome), carved pillars, ceremonial staircases and ornamental woodwork. CM KengalHanumanthaiah himself called it “Shilpa Kala Kavya”. Visitors can also see inscriptions like “Government Work is God’s Work”. The central motif of the Ashok Chakra re-emphasises the ideals of national unity.

Timing and Ticket Prices

The entry fee for Vidhana Soudha is ₹50 per person. But with proper registration, children under 16 can enter this place for free. Tickets can be booked online via the KSTDC website. The tour is open to the public on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays of every month between 8 AM to 5 PM.
